Community notebook: Ride Around Clark County set for May 6

The Vancouver Bicycle Club’s Ride Around Clark County event takes off Saturday from Clark College on rides of 100, 66, 53, 34 and 18 miles.

Online registration closes at midnight on Wednesday. Visit vbcusa.clubexpress.com for the details.

Day-of-ride registration for the 100-, 66- and 53-mile rides is available from 6:30-9 a.m. Saturday. Riders for the 34- and 18-mile courses can register until 10 a.m.

Fees range from $25 to $45 depending on the ride.

All participants must wear approved helmets during the entire ride. Headphones are not allowed on the ride. The courses close at 5 p.m.

Union lacrosse still undefeated in league

The Union lacrosse team posted wins over Skyview and Columbia River last week, and looks to complete an undefeated league season with one match remaining.

Union topped Skyview 15-0, and then beat Columbia River 15-7.

Jarad McKinney led all scorers with five goals against Columbia River and six other players had goals in the balanced scoring attack.

Against Skyview, Isaiah Pratt scored five goals and had two assists. Eight Union players had goals, and goalie Dominic Mendez made five saves for his first shutout of the season.

Union plays Camas at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cardon Field to conclude league play.

Prairie rugby posts win over Summit at Bend

The Prairie rugby team dominated its match Saturday against Summit of Bend, Ore., winning 58-7.

Sophomore Roberto Sagastume was named Prairie’s player of the match.

Prairie next plays the Portland Pumas at 6 p.m. Friday at Laurin Middle School.

Portland is coming off a 31-20 upset win over Union. It was Union’s first loss in two seasons.

High school rugby playoffs are scheduled to begin May 13.

Get warmed up for CCRC summer series

The month of May has five Wednesday opportunities to take part in Clark County Running Club events leading into its summer series.

The first is the Round Lake 3.25-mile run beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday at N.E. Lake Road and N.E. Everett St. in Camas. It’s a hilly trail run that goes through Lacamas Park.

Other Wednesday runs this month include:

• 6 p.m. May 10, Homestead Park 3K in Vancouver.

• 6:30 p.m. May 17, Pacific Park runs in Vancouver.

• 7 p.m. May 24, David Douglas 5K run No. 1, the official start of the summer series.

• 7 p.m. May 31, David Douglas 5K run No. 2.

Unified Sports soccer tourney is Saturday

Evergreen Public Schools is hosting local school districts for a Unified Sports soccer tournament from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at McKenzie Stadium (2205 N.E. 138th Ave.) in Vancouver.

The high school teams consistent of male and female players, ages 14-21, with and without intellectual disabilities. Unified Sports, in conjunction with Special Olympics, promotes social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences.

Games will be 20 minutes played on three modified fields set up at McKenzie Stadium. The final set of games will begin at noon.

The event is open to the public.

Volunteers sought for track meet for blind

The annual Track Meet for the Blind at Washington State School for the Blind is scheduled for May 18.

The meet will be using volunteers from the Columbia River Pickleball Club as well as a host of others.

A potluck breakfast for all volunteers is at 8:30 a.m. with events starting at 9 a.m.
