A family of nine was temporarily displaced from their Heritage neighborhood home after their dryer caught fire early Thursday morning.

Crews with the Vancouver Fire Department were called to 16404 N.E. 75th Circle at about 3:15 a.m. Thursday.

Arriving crews found no fire but smoke throughout the house and took the smoking dryer unit outside of the house, Vancouver firefighter and spokesman Joe Spatz said.

The residents, four adults and five children, expressed concern about the smoke throughout the house, so firefighters called the American Red Cross for assistance, Spatz said.

Volunteers with the Red Cross responded to offer assistance with resources such as temporary housing, food, clothing, comfort kits and information on recovery services.
