Ridgefield — View Ridge Middle School students will be in high school by the time the district’s new 5th through 8th grades campus opens up, but they were given the chance recently to dream up how they think the school should look.

LSW Architects, the design firm working on the new school, met with science, technology, engineering and math students from Sheila Davis’ and Tylor Hankins’ classes on March 2 to share preliminary plans and solicit student ideas on classroom design.

The students designed a floor plan for their ideal school utilizing green architecture design elements. During the visit, students learned about green architecture and sustainable building techniques, such as the use of natural diffuse lighting, passive ventilation systems, green spaces and local resources such as wood when designing a building.
