Olympia – The Washington Department of Transportation is notifying drivers to remove their studded snow tires.
State law requires snow tires to be removed by the end of the day Friday. As of April 1, drivers of vehicles with studded tires could face a $136 fine.
Studded tires are damaging to street surfaces. Prompt removal of them helps preserve road conditions.
WSDOT won’t extend the studded tire deadline this year. Crews will continue to monitor roads, passes and forecasts for late season snow and ice and will respond accordingly.
Washington and Oregon share the same studded tire deadline. No personal exemptions or waivers are issued.
