Weather Eye: Expect chance of rain every day this week, but no storms

What could have turned out to be a nice, sunny Saturday turned out to follow the weather forecast for showery and cool weather. And shower it did. How about that moderate to heavy downpour around 8 a.m. Saturday? Boy, did it pour.

So today we dry out and should enjoy a reasonable afternoon with sunshine and seasonal temperatures. With clearing skies late Saturday night, I would expect some outlying areas reached the freezing point and patchy frost here and there this morning. I expected it to dip into the 30s in Vancouver. Temperatures today will have a slow start.

The upcoming week holds more rain for us unfortunately, no big storms, but rain or showers most every day. Thursday we might scrape by without measurable rain but that may change. We certainly do not need any more rain as the monthly total as of 5 p.m. Saturday in Vancouver was 4.75 inches, some 2.5 inches above average.

With more rain in the offing through the end of the month, I expect we will have six or seven inches of rain before it is all said and done. That would be more like a winter rainfall month of November or December.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that April and May behave themselves and give us some much needed dry weather. Sound like a plan? For me, I’m not waiting for warm and dry weather, I booked a flight Monday to Hawaii and will be sending you my columns this week from the islands. Aloha!

I’ll still keep you up to date on our local weather and report the weather happenings on the big island of Hawaii. I’m looking forward to drying out, getting the algae off from behind my ears and mellow out for a few days.

I will share with you in Tuesday’s column rainfall reports from around our area for February.

Meanwhile, dash out and soak in whatever sunshine the weather gods give us and have a great week!
