Weather Eye: Area still above average on rainfall; chance of rain daily this week

“Yes, it was an unexpectedly fine day (Friday). Temperature in Barberton area was 60.4 degrees. Outside in just sweatshirt. Too bad it’s just about to go back to March rain. Hoping for more, Regards, Larry”

The above is an email I received on that sunny day Friday from local weather observer Larry Lebsack. And that kind of sums it up, don’t you think? It was 61 degrees in Vancouver Friday, officially the warmest so far this year and the warmest day since November 15, 2016. We usually see a day at 60 degrees about three weeks earlier than we did this year.

Other neighborhoods had highs between 60 and 65 degrees. The sunshine and warmth was great. It was enough to give most of us a touch of spring fever. Unfortunately, that fever diminished Saturday with more rain.

At least the rain was much warmer, as we discussed in the forecast last week. A weather system rolled through Saturday. But today was forecast to be another 60-degree ringer and dry most of the day. Plus we have an extended hour of daylight.

We are still running above average on rainfall. We will have occasional bouts with more rain off and on this week, with rain showers or a chance of rain each day.

Remember our average high for now is 56 degrees, so we should be topping that much more often. The average low is 38 degrees and we have yet to have a freeze this month in Vancouver and the lows are slowing creeping upward. That is a step in the right direction.

Keep the faith as raindrops keep falling on your head!
