Yacolt – The Volcano Rescue Team is looking for more search-and-rescue volunteers.

The all-volunteer team, which is organized under North Country EMS, conducts search and rescue operations, including technical rescue capability, around Mount St. Helens and its vicinity.

The team is an accredited member of the Mountain Rescue Association, and follows its guidelines.

Volunteers go through four stages of membership, based on their level of training and equipment.

Interested volunteers must provide their own gear. They should be physically fit enough to pass an agility test and must be able to be self-sufficient for 24 hours in the field. Ideally, they’ll also live nearby.

Interested potential applicants can find more information, and applications, at the Volcano Rescue Team’s website, www.volcanorescueteam.org. The application deadline is March 20.

Those interested can also call North Country EMS’ main line at 360-686-3271 and ask for Tom McDowell.
