March certainly did not roll in like a loud lion, but more like a sneaky sheep hiding between the rain showers. It looked gloomy at times around Clark County, but a few sun breaks were noted later in the day. Still, temperatures were below normal.
Five years ago on March 1, many county residents woke up to snow. Dan Hein of Camas had 3 inches of snow, and Phil Delany above Dole Valley had 10. Murphy Dennis near Clark County Rifles had 11.5 inches of snow. So it could have been worse. We also had a little snow one year earlier on the first of March.
I think March is a fickle month — winter wants to keep hanging on while spring tries to enter center stage. No applause at this point until we get a sunny 60-degree day, I say.
February in Vancouver was a wet, cold, gloomy month. We only had three days that I would call clear or mostly clear. There were 21 days with measurable rain for a total of 10.39 inches, 6.35 inches above average. Way cool on the average mean temperature too, 40.9 degrees, 2.6 degrees below average. Although it felt like more, Vancouver at Pearson Field had eight days with sub-freezing temperatures.
