High-schoolers head to court for mock trial tournament

West Vancouver — The Clark County District Mock Trial Tournament was held Feb. 15 and 16 at the Clark County Courthouse, with eight teams from six local high schools competing.

The mock trials were presided over a by judge and rated by three lawyers who played jurors.

The top three teams, Camas High School (Team 1), Cascadia Tech (Team 1) and Columbia High School, earned invitations to the State Mock Trial Tournament, March 24-26 in Olympia.

Some individual top finishers included: Hockinson High School’s Lauren Rath, who scored a first-place finish for Best Witness in Division II and the entire tournament; Columbia High School’s Zack Martin, who finished first in Best Witness in Division 1; Ashley Miles, of Camas High School’s Team 1, who earned the Best Attorney award for Division I and the entire tournament; and Jesse Jimenez from Cascadia Tech’s Team 1, who was awarded Best Attorney for Division II.
