At least one person was displaced after a fire destroyed two travel trailers in Vancouver’s Pleasant Highlands neighborhood Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to 14114 N.E. 72nd Ave. for a report of a vehicle fire at the property at 2:15 p.m. Sunday.
Arriving crews, however, saw a large plume of smoke and upgraded to a full structure response, calling more firefighters to the scene, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Pete Adams said.
The two trailers were about 20 feet from a shop, Adams said, so the first crew to arrive kept the fire from spreading to the structure.
The flames spread to a wood fence, Adams said, but crews were able to bring the blaze under control in about 20 minutes.
Because of the high temperatures, the fire agency brought in a rehab bus and crews were cycling through tasks at the scene, Adams said. The street was closed for several hours while they worked.
Firefighters from Clark County Fire District 6, Clark County Fire District 3 and Clark County Fire & Rescue assisted.
Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Curtis Eavenson said that there was one person who lived in one of the trailers, though it was unclear if anyone else was displaced.
The cause of the fire, which caused about $6,000 in damage, is undetermined.
