1. Rose by rose
It’s a summer explosion of color, as the Fort Vancouver Rose Society holds its 64th annual rose show, titled “Rainbow of Roses.” Visitors can explore exhibits of roses grown in the Northwest, from hybrid teas, floribundas, grandifloras to old garden roses, miniatures and mini-floras, along with arrangements of large roses and miniatures from 1 to 4 p.m. June 24 at Vancouver Church, 3300 N.E. 78th St., Vancouver. Rose gardeners are welcome to submit entries from 7 to 10:15 a.m. There will be guided tours of the rose varieties from 1 to 3 p.m., plus a rose care workshop at 2 p.m. The trophies and Queen of Show will be awarded at 3 p.m. Admission to the show is free. 360-695-0456 or www.fortvancouverrosesociety.org
2. Big shoes
Run like Sasquatch in the Bigfoot Fun Run, held in the town of Yacolt. This year’s race features 5K and 10K routes, along with an added category for children ages 6 to 12. The routes begin from Town Hall, 202 W. Cushman St., Yacolt, before heading out and back on the north county roads, with trophies awarded for first-place male and female finishers. Plus there’s the chance to meet Bigfoot in person for a photo. 3. Magical books
Celebrate 20 years of Harry Potter, first published in 1997, during the Camas Public Library’s Harry Potter Extravaganza with activities from 2 to 4 p.m. June 24. Participants can get sorted into a Hogwarts house, hear excerpts from the books, take some Harry Potter-inspired selfies, crafts and trivia. Complete a passport for an entry to win a complete boxed set of Harry Potter books. Costumes are encouraged. The afternoon ends with a screening of the Potter universe film, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” rated PG-13, at 3 p.m. Admission is free, and the public library is at 625 N.E. 4. More art in the park
It’s all about art in the park, as the 54th annual Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts features hundreds of recognized and emerging artists with multiple art exhibits on display at the Lakewood Center of the Arts, 368 S. State St., Lake Oswego, Ore. This year’s special exhibit, “Beyond the Point,” highlights the medium of colored pencil and graphite. Across the street from the center in George Rogers Park, more than 110 artists and artisans will also be showcasing their work during Craft in the Park, along with performances, food vendors, beer and wine garden, and demonstrations.
