A woman was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire damaged a manufactured home in Vancouver’s Andresen/St. Johns neighborhood.

Firefighters were called to Nomad Country Club Mobile Home, 10505 N.E. 53rd Ave., at about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Joe Spatz said.

The woman was already outside when firefighters arrived, Spatz said, and told arriving crews that she still had cats inside.

Crews got the blaze under control in less than 10 minutes, Spatz said. While several cats escaped, one cat died in the blaze.

The woman was taken to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center for minor injuries. Fire officials said the woman was treated and released.

The home sustained heavy smoke damage and the woman was displaced, fire officials said. Volunteers with the American Red Cross connected with the woman to provide her assistance.

Vancouver firefighters were assisted by crews from Clark County Fire District 6.

Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Curtis Eavenson said that a power strip was the point of origin of the fire, but that he did not know if there was a malfunction or if the device was overloaded.

The damage totaled an estimated $30,000 to the structure and $30,000 to the contents, Eavenson said.
