Vancouver — Thanks to a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, additional law enforcement officers will be patrolling Clark and Cowlitz counties this weekend, on the lookout for impaired drivers.

The state grant will pay for the officers’ extra hours. The patrols are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Participating agencies include the Battle Ground, Washougal, Woodland, Longview and Kalama police departments, and the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.

It’ll be the first time agencies in both counties conduct coordinated DUI patrols, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The department encouraged anyone including intoxicants with their weekend plans to also plan a safe means to get home.
