The student achievement leadership award, for innovative programs, was presented to Mark Hottowe, superintendent at Battle Ground Public Schools. During his 41 years in education, Hottowe demonstrated a heart for underserved youth. He worked to change school culture through programs that reduce risk, build resiliency and positive learning environments. He created the Social-Emotional Learning Department and led the implementation of the Project AWARE grant, resulting in decreased suspensions at the district’s high schools.
