Vancouver – The School Mobilization Assistance Response Teams will host a community forum discussing youth suicide, depression and mental illness today.

The forum — which starts at 6 p.m. at Cascade Park Baptist Church, 1201 S.E. 136th Ave. — will bring together a panel of mental health experts to discuss how to recognize the signs of depression in children as well as treatment options.

There will also be community groups and agencies attending to share information about their services.

The SMART group sends volunteer counselors into schools when students or teachers have died, where they can provide emotional support for students.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call SMART Coordinator Wendy Silverthorne at 360-952-3401.
