Weather Eye: Expect heavy rain, unsettled weather pattern into next week

Tickets please! The somewhat annual Rose Festival low is arriving later this week for its grand performance. Rain checks guaranteed.

I mentioned the other day that we may see the arrival of a cold trough of low pressure that likes to set up around this time of year and often the big parade in Portland is cool and showery. I think perhaps the showers Saturday will be after lunch, so most of the parade may be dry.

We will see some varying amounts of high clouds from a dying weather front. The main event unfolds late Wednesday as rain moves inland from the coast. Expect enough rain Thursday to water the garden. That will be our first big soaker in a while. The last wetting rain was three weeks ago. We will probably get more rain than we did then.

Expect another round of showery weather Friday.

It was chilly early Monday morning with lows in the lower 40s for Vancouver, near 40 in the urban areas and in the 30s as expected in the outlying areas. Tyler Mode of Battle Ground reported a low of 39 degrees. Weather watcher Phil Delany above Dole Valley had 32 degrees and frost.

I don’t see a return to hot weather for some time. We remain in an unsettled weather pattern Wednesday evening through Sunday and into next week. Highs will be in the 60s Thursday through Sunday.

Remember the weather saying I mentioned Thursday? “If on the 8th of June it rains, it foretells a wet harvest.” Rain is in the forecast on that day.

Soak up the sunshine and cut the grass, we’ll chat on a rainy Thursday.
