An early morning deck fire at a Washougal house was extinguished quickly, making the damage to the home minimal, fire officials said.
Firefighters were called to 1270 Fairway Drive just before 3 a.m. today for a report of a structure fire, Camas-Washougal Battalion Chief Larry Larimer said.
Responding crews saw smoke coming out of the attic and a fire on the front porch, Larimer said. They quickly doused the flames on the deck and searched for extension into the house and they learned the fire hadn’t gotten inside, Larimer said.
The result was that there was minimal damage, Larimer said, which he said is lucky. When fire gets into the attic, where there aren’t usually sprinklers, the damage can be more drastic, he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Camas-Washougal Fire Marshal’s Office.
