Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council. For information on the following and other opportunities, call 360-735-3683.

• Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington seek mentors to meet with a club member weekly for 12 weeks, providing positive, individual attention. Program assistants are needed to coach and help with special events, and homework tutors are needed during the school year.

• CDM Services seeks volunteers for its ElderFriends program. Hair dressers, handymen, kitchen assistants, musicians, nurses and program aides are welcome.

• FISH of Vancouver seeks volunteers at its food pantry to sort, pack food boxes, and clean.

• PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center is looking for volunteers to provide directions and information to patients and visitors in the front lobby. Help is also needed in the hospital gift shop, where all proceeds benefit Share House.

• West Columbia Gorge Humane Society seeks help with cleaning litter boxes, petting and socializing with cats at the shelter.

The Clark County Food Bank depends on volunteers to help feed hungry Clark County residents. To help, call 360-693-0939 or email volunteer@clarkcountyfoodbank.org. The greatest needs are for:

• Food collectors. People in this position drive or ride in a 20-foot box truck to Clark County grocery stores, 7:15 to 10:30 a.m. weekdays, filling out donation slips and lifting 40- to 50-pound boxes. A commercial driver’s license is not required. A commitment of two shifts per month is requested.

• Food sorters. Sorters wear close-toed shoes, for safety, and layered clothing, as the work is done in a refrigerated room, 10 a.m. to noon weekdays. Those able to work a longer shift can help the following day’s donations. A commitment of one shift per week is requested.

• Receptionists. Shifts are 8 a.m. to noon, or noon to 4 p.m. Receptionists handle phones and messages, file, enter data on the computer, greet visitors and provide light cleaning. A commitment of one shift per week for at least six months is requested.
