Save the Date: Get ready for fairs, festivals and a footrace

Take part in some fairy tale fun during Camas Days. The Grand Parade will begin at 11 a.m. today, with the theme of “Once Upon a Time.” Explore the streets of downtown Camas for local arts and crafts, live music, food vendors and children’s activities. And cheer the teams during the splish-splashy bathtub races at 1 p.m. in front of City Hall. The microbrew street, “A Toast of Camas,” will be open 5 to 11 p.m. for those 21 and older, with a $5 entry. La Center Our Days Celebration changes it up this year, with a dance party along Fourth Street featuring the Perry Gerber Band, and a community movie screening of “Sing” from 7 to 10 p.m. July 28 at Sternwheeler Park, 100 E. Fourth St. Events on July 29 kick off at 8 a.m. starting with a fun 5K run/walk, followed by the parade at 10 a.m. on a new route. There will also be a car show, kids zone activities, beautiful baby contest and crafts, finishing the day with community bingo at 2 p.m. in Holley Park, 1000 E. The Vancouver Mall will commemorate 40 years with a fashion show in the court in front of H&M at noon July 29 featuring looks inspired by the different decades. There will be giveaways every 40 minutes past the hour and a concert by Hit Machine in the southeast parking lot at 3 p.m. There will also be activities for all ages and other entertainment from noon to 3:30 p.m. July 29 in the mall, 8700 N.E. Fourth Plain Multicultural Festival will celebrate the diversity of the community and businesses along Fourth Plain Boulevard from noon to 5 p.m. July 30 at Fort Vancouver High School Center for International Studies, 5700 E. 18th St., Vancouver. It’s that time of the year. The 149th edition of the Clark County Fair will run Aug. 4 through Aug. 13. This year will feature the popular Dock Dogs, Monster Trucks, carnival rides, farm animals, free concerts, FairCon and Cowboy Bootcamp. It all begins with the free pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Aug. 4, which includes early free entry to the fair. Vouchers are available from local Fred Meyer locations. The fair hours are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 4; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. The carnival opens at noon daily, except for opening day. Admission is $9 in advance, $11.25 at the gate, $7 in advance or $9.25 for seniors, $6 in advance or $8.25 for ages 7 to 12, and free for ages 6 and younger. Parking is $6, and C-TRAN will be offering free shuttle service to the fair from multiple transit centers, visit www.c-tran.com/clarkcountyfair for more information. The lineup for this year’s concert series features Old Dominon on Aug. 4, the Marshall Tucker Band on Aug. 5, the B-52s on Aug. 6 and Melissa Etheridge on Aug. 7. The 18th annual Race for the Homeless features 5K and 10K runs, a 5K walk and a kids fun run. All proceeds benefit Open House Ministries, with the race hosted by New Heights Church. Registration opens at 7 a.m. with a race start at 8 a.m. Aug. 5 from O.O. Howard House, 750 Anderson St., Vancouver. Boy Scout Troop 462 hosts its first Scouting Cruise In, open to all types of cars and bikes with multiple raffles, trophies and dash plaques. There will be food and other vendors on-site. Proceeds from the car show will help more Boy Scouts participate in the organization’s activities and adventures. The car show is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5 at Mountain View High School, 1500 S.E.
