A report of an assault in a vehicle in Vancouver turned into a pursuit that ended in Oregon with the arrest of a transient man.
Officers were called to a report of a female being assaulted in a vehicle that was driving recklessly northbound on C Street at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.
The vehicle ran a red light and continued driving erratically. Patrol units caught up to the vehicle as it headed east on Fourth Plain Boulevard near Norris Road, Kapp said.
Officers confirmed the vehicle had been reported as stolen to the Portland Police Bureau last week, Kapp said.
A pursuit ensued, with law enforcement from multiple agencies pursuing the driver as he traveled south on Interstate 205, Kapp said.
At times during the pursuit, the female passenger was seen trying to open the door of the vehicle and jump out, Kapp said.
The vehicle eventually ran out of gas in Gresham, Ore., and the driver fled on foot, Kapp said. He was taken into custody a short time later.
Kapp said the driver was identified as Fellony E. Hudson, 22, who was lodged in the Multnomah County Jail on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping, two counts of attempt to elude police, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempted first-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants and a Department of Corrections warrant.
Vancouver police said they will also be referring charges of first-degree domestic violence kidnapping, attempt to elude, possession of stolen property and fourth-degree domestic violence assault.
