A fire heavily damaged a home north of Yacolt Wednesday afternoon, but the house shouldn’t be a total loss, Fire District 13 Chief Ben Peeler said.

Firefighters were first called to the intersection of Northeast Jehnsen and Northeast Worthington roads, about 2 miles north of Yacolt, shortly before 1:45 p.m.

Nearby, at 23217 N.E. Worthington Road, they found a house on fire.

Firefighters, with help from fire districts 3, 10 and Clark County Fire & Rescue, had the fire under control in about an hour, he said.

While there was significant damage, the home should be salvageable, he said.

Peeler said no one was home at the time, and officials were working Wednesday to contact the occupants. No one was injured, he said.

“It appears to have started on the exterior of the house and burned into the house, but that’s all preliminary,” he said.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating.
