Camas — Camas High School sophomore Tsering Shola is one of three finalists for the Oticon Focus on People Award, given out by the Denmark-based hearing aid manufacturer. Shola, 16, worked in an Oregon Health & Science University lab and contributed to scientific research in hearing loss, specifically working on a project that allows researchers to validate segmentation by machine in about two minutes, a process that manually can take up to two hours. For her work, Shola scored a first-place finish in the biomedical and health category at the Washington State Science & Engineering Fair and won a spot at the 2017 Intel International Science Fair. She took an interest in hearing health after a routine test revealed hearing loss in Shola’s right ear as a young child.
