Vancouver – C-Tran, TriMet and Portland Streetcar officially launched their shared electronic-fare system, the Hop Fastpass, on Monday.

Now riders can tap a Hop card with money or a touchless bank card to pay their fare on the any C-Tran, Vine, MAX Light Rail, Portland Streetcar, WES Commuter Rail or TriMet vehicles.

Hop cards are available in a number of stores throughout Clark County. Cash is still accepted. Traditional monthly fares will be available from C-Tran for a few months while customers adapt to the new electronic system.

With the Hop pass, riders that use the card for two trips in one day will earn a day pass. Also, when they reach the cost of a monthly pass, they’ll ride free for the month.

In coming weeks, riders will also be able to use mobile wallet features on their smartphones.

Starting in February more than 5,000 people began beta-testing the new system.
