Weather Eye: Forecast this week is normal, about 80 degrees

Goodness, we haven’t checked the monthly statistics to get an idea where we are so let’s do that right now. The average mean temperature for Vancouver is 68.5 degrees, 1.2 degrees above normal. Rainfall is still 0 and about one-half inch below average. Saturday was the 29th day without measurable precipitation.

Our warmest temperature was 91 degrees on July 5th and the coolest, 50 degrees on the 8th. Of course, our outlying areas have dipped into the upper 30s and lower 40s on occasion. All systems are still a go for continued mild and dry weather except one tiny fly in the ointment.

One reliable computer model shows a weather system dipping southward from British Columbia by Thursday which could spread some light rain to Southwest Washington and certainly along the coast. Other forecast models keep it north and the weather dry except for those pesky morning clouds.

Meanwhile in Eastern Washington, another red flag warning was issued Saturday afternoon for dry heat and gusty winds. Some cities were approaching the 100-degree mark with winds gusting to 30 mph. Talk about a blowtorch. Boy, good thing we have no dry lightning to talk about.

The good news is that with the continued westerly flow off the ocean, cooler air will make it east today and this week for highs in the 80s and low 90s and higher humidity. That will temper the fire situation briefly.

Our forecast this week looks like highs near normal about 80 degrees plus or minus depending on the morning cloud cover. So no hot weather and even though there may be a risk of a shower later in week, I am subtracting the one forecast model trying to dampen our spirits. I say it stays dry.

Picture-perfect weather; no complaints here; 80 degrees or below is perfect. Dry is OK too; water from the tap will do. Take good care, and we will chat on Tuesday as July strides forward.
