Investigators were unable to determine precisely what caused a Saturday fire in a Camas home, but the damage was minor enough the residents were able to stay in the home that night.

The Camas-Washougal Fire Department responded to a fire at 2108 N.E. Everett St. around 8:45 a.m. They found the side of a two-story house was on fire, and were able to douse the flames quickly.

Randy Miller, deputy Camas-Washougal marshal, said passers-by noticed the smoke, went to the home, pounded on the door and rang the doorbell, and were able to rouse the person inside. No one was hurt.

Miller said the fire appeared to have started inside a wall, in a corner of the house’s laundry room. The fire spread to the outside of the house. It didn’t do much damage inside, he said.

The fire did about $20,000 in damage, he said.

There wasn’t enough evidence to definitively say what caused the fire, he said.
