A 9-year-old Clark County boy escaped with only minor injuries Monday when the pickup he was driving crashed into a ditch in a rural area near Ridgefield, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy, who has Down syndrome, was driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup south on Northwest 31st Avenue at about 7 p.m. when the vehicle ran off the road just south of Northwest 209th Street, according to CCSO Sgt. Fred Neiman.

Crews from Clark County Fire & Rescue responded to the scene at about 7:05 p.m. and found the boy in the upside-down pickup, according to Clark County Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Dawdy.

Dawdy said the boy, whose name was not released, suffered only minor injuries, “but I’m sure his parents and members of the local constabulary want to have a talk with him,” he added.
