Ed Herman’s first mixed-martial-arts fight in nearly a year didn’t go as he hoped.

A Vancouver native who lives in Battle Ground, Herman lost by unanimous decision to CB Dollaway in a UFC fight Friday in Las Vegas.

Herman dropped to 24-13-0 with the loss in a light-heavyweight preliminary bout at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Finale.

Herman was a pre-fight underdog to Dollaway, who improved to 16-9-0.

The soon-to-be 37-year-old hadn’t fought since July 30, 2016. A groin injury forced Herman to miss a scheduled fight in April.

Dollaway spent much of the first round in a dominant position. On his back, Herman endured Dollaway’s persistent attempts at forcing a submission hold.

Herman reversed his fortunes in the second round. Staying on his feet, he landed several significant punches and opened a cut on Dollaway’s forehead.

But the third round mirrored the first, with Dollaway controlling Herman on the mat.

Dollway controlled Herman for 9 minutes, 23 seconds of the fight compared to 2:48 controlled by Herman. According to UFC stats, Dollway landed 54 “significant strikes” compared to 24 for Herman.
