Weather Eye: Hoping you got to see the patriotic sunrise on the Fourth of July

It may have been a crazy evening on the Fourth, but the weather was certainly safe and sane with picture-perfect conditions. It was even a tad warmer than I had expected at the fireworks hour. Wednesday we crept to the “hot” category with afternoon highs near or at 90 degrees.

Today, we’ll warm back up to the upper 80s with fair conditions. You may notice some thundery-looking clouds over the Cascades as warm, unstable air moves northward from California. Friday, we’ll see those pleasant morning clouds with plenty of afternoon sunshine and highs still above average at 80 degrees or a degree or two above.

The weekend looks warm with highs in the 80s continuing into early next week. Expect morning clouds at times; otherwise, we’re cruising and not losing with the weathermobile. No rain in sight, so keep up on your watering.

The weather in Clark County, as mentioned, was fantastic for the Fourth. Believe it or not, low clouds cleared along the coast, and the ocean beaches in Washington enjoyed a fantastic sunset and of course thousands setting off their fireworks. It was both beautiful and mind-boggling at the same time.

Did you see the gorgeous sunrise on the Fourth? A patriotic one with red, white and blue. The National Weather Service reported, “Though the weather we know usually occurs below about 6 miles in the atmosphere, there are clouds that can exist on the very edge of space. We rarely see them at our latitude. Known as Noctilucent (or night shining) clouds, they are about 50 miles in altitude.”
