Woodland — Woodland Intermediate School’s English Language Learners excelled at this year’s English Language Proficiency Assessment exam, with 13 students testing out of the program. Last year, seven students tested out of the class after the assessment. The school hosted an assembly to honor the students, with each student earning a certificate noting their accomplishment. “The test is incredibly difficult featuring sections focusing on listening, speaking, reading and writing,” Carlotta Propersi, lead teacher for the ELL program, said in a release from the district. “The school is incredibly proud of our students as well as the ELL teaching team’s success in preparing these students for this challenging test.” Students who speak English as their second language enter the English Language Learners program after first registering for the school, and once they pass the assessment, teachers monitor their progress with the general student body for up to two years to ensure they receive any additional assistance if needed.
