VANCOUVER — Vancouver author and military historian Jeff Davis will conduct weekend walking tours of the Vancouver Barracks this summer, from Friday through Sept. 4.
“Spirit Tales of the Vancouver Barracks” will depict the darker side of life on the historic U.S. Army post established in 1849.
“In those years, thousands of service members and their families, civilians and prisoners walked its grounds. They left their mark on the land and the buildings, leaving behind many memories,” Davis said in a news release.
“Whether you believe in ghosts or not, you will be interested in the stories of the Vancouver Barracks’ past inhabitants. What is true and what is legend is for you to decide.”
During his 32 years in the Army and Army Reserves, he served in many of the buildings at the Vancouver Barracks.
Tours start in the parking lot opposite the Grant House, 1101 Officers Row.
Friday tours are from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday tours are from 6-7:30 p.m. and 8-9:30 p.m.; Sunday tours are from 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
There also will be a Monday tour on Sept. 4 as part of the Labor Day holiday, 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
