UPDATE: After a search on Sunday that included more than 50 people was unsuccessful, deputies suspended search efforts for Johnson.

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the search for a 90-year-old Longview man who has been missing since Thursday.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office received a call Thursday from the family of Wilford R. Johnson reporting the man missing and endangered. Johnson reportedly has dementia, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday morning, Skamania County dispatchers received a call of an abandoned vehicle in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The vehicle was located near Milepost 7 on Forest Road 93, about 30 miles northeast of Cougar.

Skamania County sheriff’s deputies responded and searched the area surrounding the abandoned vehicle but were unable to locate Johnson. Search crews from the Volcano Rescue Team, as well as family members, searched the area and nearby roads Friday until dark.

Search efforts resumed Saturday morning with 24 searchers, two K-9 teams and family members. Those efforts will continue throughout the day.

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information regarding the location of Johnson to call police at (509) 427-9490.
