Jazz vespers set Feb. 4 at St. Luke’s Episcopal

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church continues its bimonthly jazz vespers series under new leadership by musician and educator Mike Horsfall at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. Saxophonist David Evans will be the featured guest.

Horsfall has enjoyed a diverse musical career for more than 35 years composing, arranging and recording as well as performing as a piano and vibraphone soloist, according to a press release from St. Luke’s. He has worked with such notable groups as Pink Martini, the Nu Shooz Orchestra, and the Portland Chamber Orchestra, and was a founder of the trio Tall Jazz. He serves on the music faculty at Willamette University, Mt. Hood Community College, and Oregon Episcopal School.

Evans, who began his career in Alabama in the late 1970s, has performed and recorded with industry notables such as Pete Fountain, B.B. King, Johnny Mathis, The Temptations, and many more. Aside from his busy performance schedule, he also teaches in association with Lewis and Clark College and Marylhurst University.

St. Luke’s Episcopal is at 426 E. Fourth Plain Blvd. in Vancouver.
