Burn ban announced for Clark County

Vancouver – Cold nights, calm winds and increasing volumes of fine particulate air pollution in Clark County moved the Southwest Clear Air Agency to issue a stage 2 burn ban effective immediately.

Cold nights and limited daytime ventilation and dispersion has caused fine particle air pollution levels to rise toward the federal health-based standard.

These conditions are forecasted to last through Saturday and possibly beyond.

The burning of fireplaces, wood stoves and inserts, and pellet stoves is prohibited until further notice, unless they are the sole source of heat in a home.

In that case, the agency asks that wood is burned as cleanly as possible.

All outdoor burning also is prohibited.

Air pollution levels near the federal health based standard is especially concerning for people with heart and lung problems, children and adults older than 65.
