It is staying light a little bit longer in the late afternoon as our sunset is now after 5 p.m. That does mean we are on our way to springtime in the great Northwest. But the calendar still shows many days of winter left to explore.
Looking at temperatures in the far North, I get the chills. Northern Alaska is shivering in temperatures between 30 and 50 degrees below zero. The same for northern Canada in the Yukon. A bone-chilling air mass from Siberia has drifted across the Pacific laying a heavy shroud of snow and ice.
We weather folks always pay attention to such a cold air mass as usually it will move southward at some point. Most of us probably would say we had enough of the Alaskan adventure already this winter. More snow and cold? Maybe.
I’m not looking at any immediate threat of cold and snow, but there may be some inklings down the road. Meanwhile, good news for you: After more chilly showers today as that pesky cold east wind just won’t go away, high pressure builds inland.
