AIRWAY HEIGHTS — The Kalispel Tribe is planning a $20 million expansion of its Northern Quest Resort and Casino to draw in more families.

On Wednesday, the tribe announced a 40,000-square-foot addition in Airway Heights that will include child care facilities, a youth arcade with nonviolent games, restaurants and retail space. Expansion plans also call for construction of an upscale RV park.

The Kalispel Tribe opened Northern Quest Casino 17 years ago and it employs more than 2,000 people.

Meanwhile, a different tribe is building a new casino about two miles away.

The Spokane Tribe of Indians broke ground last fall on a $40 million casino expected to open later this year. It’s the first phase of a $400 million resort under the Hard Rock Hotel banner.

Airway Heights is a suburb of Spokane.
