Washington Timbers win state championship

The Vancouver-based Washington Timbers youth soccer club took home a title at the state championships last weekend in Tukwila.

The 19-under Washington Timbers 98 Red 1 squad won two matches at Starfire Sports Complex to claim the Washington State Championship Cup.

The Timbers beat Puyallup-based Washington Premier 98 Black in overtime to win the championship. After a late goal tied the match in regulation, the Timbers scored twice in overtime to win 3-1.

Washington Timbers B98 Reds 2 finished second in the U-19 Washington State Presidents Cup tournament, falling 2-1 to a team from Bainbridge in the final.
