At this point in time, it doesn’t appear February is going to give us much of a break in the winter weather pattern. Quiet often we get 3-5 days straight with sunshine and above average temperatures. Not this year. More rain today and President’s Day. There will be good snows in the mountains down to the passes and below.
The storm Monday could bring some high winds again to the coast. Residents there have become accustomed to wind storms every week it seems. The good news is we will be on the north side of the jet stream this week, which means precipitation amounts will be lighter. The down side is it will be cooler.
It is a wet month so far. Vancouver has seen 8.20 inches in the rain bucket as of Saturday afternoon. That is an amazing 5.50 inches above average! Vancouver’s rainfall for February is greater than many areas along the Washington coast.
If you take a drive up state Highway 14 in the Gorge, the snow is melting and it sure looks like spring is right around the corner. Just watch out for the potholes. Despite the rain and cooler temperatures, nature is defying Old Man Winter. Yes, the frogs are in full chorus. Early spring bulbs are blooming. Oh how we long for spring and blue skies.
