I must tell you, this bout of warmer rain has our little froggy friends hopping with joy. If you live near a wetland, you probably have heard them. Weather watcher Ellen Smart near Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge says they have been singing their nightly chorus for over a week now.
With the roads wet at night, you can see them hopping across the roadway. Double navigation now — dodging potholes and frogs. Our current stormy pattern will subside by Friday and the weekend may not be too bad; at least if it rains, it won’t be torrents.
As we enter into late February, we see the first signs of spring bulbs popping up. Crocuses showing their cheery color, daffodils sprouting skyward. Often, they get fooled into an early spring, but then a cold snap and often snow send these early risers at rest.
On a brighter side and a yummy one too is that in Florida, it’s strawberry season. I can just taste the shortcake, fresh sliced berries and whipped cream, can’t you? Locally, we’ll wait another four months or so for warmth and sunshine but mingle soon the California berries for dessert.
