Johnny Green’s late 3-pointer helped the Fort Vancouver boys basketball team earn its first win in the bi-district tournament in seven years with a 66-63 win over Lakes in the 3A bi-district tournament in Olympia on Friday.

Green’s 3-pointer with 30 seconds left gave Fort a 62-61 lead. He later sank two free throws with eight seconds left to give the Trappers a three-point edge.

Lakes got the ball downcourt and got a clear look at a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

“It was down,” Fort coach James Ensley said. “I mean it was down, and somehow it managed to pop out.”

The miss sent the Trappers and their supporters who made the trip north into celebration.

“This win was so important to the kids, so important to the school,” Ensley said. “2008 is a long time. For these kids, they’ve never experienced anything like this. … I’m really happy for them, and for everyone who came up to support us.”

Jameel Morton scored a game-high 23 points for Fort, making four 3-pointers to go with six rebounds.

Miracle Alford-Lewis had 15 points with four 3s and six rebounds for the Trappers (14-7), who next face Central Kitsap in a loser-out game on Monday at Timberline High.
