Girls basketball: Union 55, Federal Way 23

The Titans started fast, then cruised into the bi-district tournament.

Union, the No. 3 seed in the 4A Greater St. Helens League, won a play-in game at Olympia High for the Titans first postseason win in four years.

The Titans (12-6) advance to the double-elimination bi-district tournament. They face Bellarmine Prep (19-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday in Tacoma.

Courtney Cranston scored 11 of her game-high 14 points in the first half, which ended with Union up 31-11.

Emily Takayoshi added 13 points. Union coach Mike Cranston praised her defense, as she held Federal Way’s leading scorer Sydney Dewitt to eight points.

Mackenzie Lewis added 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Rebekah Barney had three steals.

Federal Way’s season is over at 8-14. The Eagles were the No. 4 seed from the North Puget Sound League.
