Icy conditions will persist until early to mid-afternoon today, the National Weather Service now says.
In an updated winter weather advisory issued at 9:01 a.m., the weather service said conditions will persist longest near the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge, including Washougal and Camas.
The slickest conditions this morning appear to be in Multnomah County, both near the gorge and in the west hills. Even downtown Portland is slick, however.
Temperatures are slightly warmer on this side of the river, with favorable road conditions in much of Clark County, including downtown Vancouver, Hazel Dell and Salmon Creek.
It was 34 degrees at Pearson Field in Vancouver at noon, where about half an inch of ran has fallen since last night.
Only a handful of local schools announced closures or delays, particularly those with facilities near the Columbia River Gorge.
Conditions varied widely. Roads were icy in Camas and Washougal, where an accident on Highway 14 about 3 a.m. resulted in one injury. On the west side of town, roads tended to be just wet.
C-Tran was operating mostly as usual, too, and commuter routes are resuming regular service this afternoon. Portland International Airport is open, though a few flights are canceled or delayed.
A few power outages were reported during the day.
At this point the weekend looks to be rainy, according to the weather service.
