Prairie coach Kyle Brooks wouldn’t be surprised to see the Kamiakin Braves again in regionals or at the Class 3A state tournament should his Falcons also make it that far, which is just one of the reasons why he called Friday’s 55-49 victory to end the SunDome Shootout a “really good test.”
Kam Osborn led the way for Prairie with 21 points and Braiden Broadbent and Dante Heitschmidt combined for 27 points.
And it was Broadbent who helped get things going, Brooks said, scoring seven of Prairie’s 11 second-quarter points.
“We really didn’t have a lot going on,” he said. “He carried us that second quarter.”
At one point in the fourth, Prairie’s lead was six before Kamiakin pulled within one. Prairie sealed it with free throws. Osborn and Heitschmidt were a combined 13 for 13. Prairie as a team was 18 for 24 at the stripe.
After starting 0-3, Prairie is now 6-4 with what Brooks called “good momentum,” heading into 3A GSHL play Wednesday at Evergreen.
