Payton Wangler reached several milestones on a day that ended in a narrow loss.

The four-year starter scored 25 points — and hit six 3s — to break the all-time program scoring record in Hockinson’s 64-59 overtime loss to North Marion (Ore.) in the Surf N Slam Tournament in Scripps Ranch, Calif on Wednesday.

Wangler’s six 3-pointers tied a program record for made 3s in a game.

“Of course she’s not happy,” Hockinson coach Damon Roche said, “she wants to break it.”

The Hawks led by three with three second left, when North Marion hit a corner 3 at the buzzer to force overtime.

From there, Hockinson didn’t make another field goal. North Marion controlled in extra time.

Wangler also had six assists and four steals, Grace Russell had eight points and nine boards and Lillie Mueller had nine points and eight boards for the Hawks.

Hockinson faces Orem (Utah) Thursday at 9 a.m. and will play for fourth place.
