The Titans used a 16-5 third-quarter scoring run to widen its halftime lead and advance to the semifinals of the Surf ‘N Slam Tournament in San Diego.

Union faces Severn High out of Severna Park, Md. at 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the tournament semifinals after Wednesday morning’s opening-round victory over the Centurions of San Diego.

Union coach Blake Conley credited Coby Weatherspoon for sparking the third-quarter run Wednesday. He finished with seven points, and also had key steals.

“He played really well in the third quarter to push (the lead) up and seal the game for us,” Conley said.

Ethan Smith led Union with 12 points and Jason Franklin, Jr., had 10 points and eight rebounds.
