Hockinson quarterback Canon Racanelli was named the Class 2A football state player of the year Friday, as voted on by media members statewide.

Racanelli led the Hawks to an undefeated season, capped by the program’s first state title after a 35-22 victory over Tumwater in the championship game Dec. 2. He also was a first-team all-state selection at quarterback, throwing for 4,128 yards and 57 touchdowns and also rushing for 638 yards and 17 touchdowns to headline Hockinson’s five players to earn first-team all-state honors.

Sophomore Sawyer Racanelli (receiver), and seniors Kordell Johnson (offensive line), Kyle Brabec (defensive line) and Colton Wheeler (linebacker) were first-team all-state honorees. Senior Matt Henry was honorable mention at defensive back, as was Columbia River’s Beau Braden at offensive line.

Other Clark County honorees selected: La Center, which reached consecutive Class 1A state semifinals, had four first-team all-state selections: Wyatt Dodson (running back), Jack Hiller (offensive line), Wyatt Siebert (defensive line) and Evan Honore. Hiller, a recent Montana Tech signee, also was honorable mention at defensive line.

Union’s Darien Chase was a first-team 4A all-state pick at wide receiver, and Camas’ Luke Bruno made the first team at linebacker. Union linebacker Riley Miller earned 4A honorable mention, while Mountain View’s Joey Roberts was 3A honorable mention at offensive line.

O’Dea senior Jamyn Patu has been voted the Associated Press Washington state player of the year for all classifications after leading the Irish to their first state title in 22 years.

Patu was honored on Friday following voting by sports media from around the state. Patu also shared the Class 3A player of the year honor with Garfield star Tre’Shaun Harrison. Patu rushed for 2,208 yards and 28 touchdowns as O’Dea won its first state title since 1995.

Adam Weissenfels from state champion Richland was the Class 4A player of the year. Weissenfels was a standout on defense for the Bombers, who won their first title since 1999.

Meridian quarterback Simon Burkett was the Class 1A player of the year.

Two more quarterbacks were honored in Class B. In Class 2B, Kalama’s Alex Dyer was voted player of the year, while Almira/Coulee-Hartline QB Maguire Isaak was honored in Class 1B.

In a voting change for this year due to low numbers, the Class B all-state team combines both Class 2B and 1B nominees.
