A Vancouver Fire Department deputy fire marshal said a residential blaze that displaced six people on Wednesday was caused by an electrical issue.

Firefighters were called to a house fire on Southeast 179th Court shortly before 4:20 p.m., according to dispatch logs. Six people who were inside had exited the home by the time responders arrived.

Fire department spokesman Darrin Deming said the firefighters saw light smoke billowing from under eaves on the front of the house and heavier smoke coming from roof vents toward its rear, indicating it might have been an attic fire. It took about 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

On Friday, Deputy Fire Marshal Cristian Ganea said the fire originated from a ventilation fan in a second-story bathroom. The fan had been left on, and some mechanism of the fan failed, he said.

Most of the fire was confined to the attic, Ganea said.

Red Cross said it provided help to the six people displaced.
