A 26-year-old man with a lengthy Clark County rap sheet faces new allegations that he struck another man in the face with a handgun and then discharged a single round inside a Vancouver home Monday night.
Cameron Troy Costello has been charged in Clark County Superior Court with first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the incident happened at about 10:22 p.m. at a home off Southeast Park Crest Avenue.
Costello got into an argument with the home’s resident, according to the affidavit. The victim told police Costello pulled a small handgun from his clothing, worked the slide on the gun, ejecting a round, and then pointed it at his face.
“Costello then hit him in the head with the gun after punching him several times in the side of the face,” the affidavit says. The responding police officer noted injuries on the victim consistent with his account of the assault.
Costello also allegedly fired the weapon next to the victim’s head. The bullet struck the ceiling, leaving a visible hole, the affidavit says.
Costello fled the home on foot but was arrested a short time later.
At an initial court appearance on Wednesday, Costello was appointed a defense attorney.
Court records indicate Costello is a convicted felon and is barred from possessing firearms.
A Clark County Corrections document says Costello acknowledged using alcohol before the alleged assault. The document also says he does not have a permanent address and has not been employed for the past five years.
