A Tigard, Ore., man was fatally shot Sunday morning outside a residence in Stevenson following a verbal dispute with another man.

An autopsy was scheduled Monday for Michael K. McLaughlin, 37, at the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to a press release from the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

Skamania County sheriff’s deputies were called about 8:35 a.m. to a residence in the 1500 block of Lakeview Drive in Stevenson. The caller reported hearing multiple gunshots and people screaming for the police, according to the sheriff’s office.

Responding deputies found McLaughlin dead outside the residence.

Stevenson resident, William F. Prosser, 24, was arrested and booked into the Skamania County Jail on suspicion of murder, the sheriff’s office said.

The initial investigation found that Prosser, McLaughlin and three other people were at the Bagby Hot Springs in the Mount Hood National Forest and then later drove to Stevenson. Shortly after they arrived, a verbal dispute ensued between Prosser and McLaughlin, ending with McLaughlin being shot, according to the sheriff’s office.
