Though his team started cold, Brock Schoene was on fire when it counted.
The senior scored nine of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, including two crucial 3-pointers, as Evergreen beat King’s Way Christian 72-70 at home.
Schoene also blocked a 3-point attempt in the final seconds with Evergreen leading 71-70. After Schoene made one free throw, King’s Way had a 50-foot desperation shot rim out.
Evergreen (3-3) trailed 28-13 after the first quarter. But the Plainsmen clawed back with a balanced attack that saw four players score in double figures. Dwight Jones had 17 points, X’Zayvier Washington added 13 and Jeremy Harju had 11.
“We want to be a balanced team,” Evergreen coach Brett Henry said. “Even though we have nine seniors, we’re still young. We’re learning how to win.”
