A 17-year-old girl was wounded Sunday night in a shooting in Vancouver’s Shumway neighborhood, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Officers and ambulances responded following a report of a shooting near F Street and East 33rd Street and found the girl suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive, according to police.

A suspect in the shooting had fled before officers arrived, according to police.

The Major Crimes unit is investigating, said police department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

It is unknown whether the most recent shooting is connected to a Dec. 3 shooting in North Image neighborhood of east Vancouver, Kapp said.

Investigators have not been able to talk with the girl as she was receiving medical treatment, but they hope to do so later Monday, Kapp said.

“Detectives are following up on details but so far today there is nothing new and no arrest has been made,” she said.
